your first time looking into security systems

Here at Carolina Security Technologies, we are committed to helping you keep your home or business safe, and we offer top-notch security systems to help you do just that. If this is your first time looking into security systems, you may not know how to tell the difference between the various types on the market or which type is best for your needs. To help you make an informed decision, in this article we’ll be going over some of the main types of security systems and their relative strengths and weaknesses.

  • Local Alarms. At the most basic end of the continuum of security systems, we have local alarms. A local alarm uses sensors placed on your doors and windows to detect motion—if anything triggers the sensor, an alarm will sound. While they are a highly affordable security option, the lack of monitoring means that they don’t offer much real security benefit compared to more robust systems.
  • Wired Alarm Systems. These security systems use a network of sensors and (sometimes) cameras to monitor the exterior of your building, all of which are wired to a central control panel. Like local alarms, wired alarms will sound when something triggers one of the sensors. Unlike local alarms, however, many wired alarm systems are monitored, meaning that this will also alert the monitoring company, which can in turn alert you the owner and emergency responders of the potential intruder. We at Carolina Security Technologies work with a monitoring company called Security Central to offer you this extra layer of protection.
  • Wireless Alarm Systems. Wireless security systems operate in basically the same way as the wired version, except the components communicate with each other through airborne signals. One of the main advantages of these systems is that it’s possible to disassemble them and take them with you when you move, allowing you to enjoy the same security in your new home without having to pay for it twice.
